Innowise helped Scentbird expand its subscription platform to support new shopping experiences and international growth.

Scentbird is a US-based subscription box service that sends premium fragrances and lifestyle products to members each month based on their personal taste preferences. For a monthly fee, subscribers receive a travel-sized 8ml vial of a designer or niche fragrance, allowing them to try scents before committing to a full-priced bottle.
What's stood out most about working with Innowise is how fast their engineers move from executing tickets to actually owning the problem. They came in, learned our platform, and within a short window were flagging edge cases and pushing back on requirements when it mattered — the kind of domain depth we'd expect from long-tenured in-house hires, not a staffing partner. They've been a reliable extension of our engineering team as we've scaled the platform.

As Scentbird expanded its business and introduced new products and services, its subscription platform needed to evolve without disrupting the customer experience. The company required additional engineering capacity to accelerate feature delivery, support international growth, and improve the performance and reliability of its web and mobile applications.
At the heart of Scentbird’s subscription service is a digital web platform that makes fragrance discovery simple and personalized. Customers start by telling Scentbird about their fragrance preferences through a short quiz. Based on their profile, they discover fragrances that match their taste, select what they’d like to receive next, and organize future monthly deliveries in their personal queue. Throughout their subscription, they can easily update upcoming fragrance selections and manage every aspect of their membership.
To support the platform’s growth, Scentbird partnered with Innowise to strengthen its product engineering team. Working alongside the client’s in-house specialists, our team expanded the platform with new capabilities, refined core subscription workflows, and enhanced performance across the entire ecosystem.
Scentbird’s core business is built around a subscription model, where customers receive an 8 mL fragrance of their choice on a recurring schedule, with the flexibility to update upcoming selections, skip deliveries, or adjust shipment frequency.
As Scentbird expanded beyond the subscription model, it needed to support one-time purchases without compromising the existing customer experience. Our team designed and implemented a new catalog architecture that unifies full-size fragrances, travel-size products, and curated gift collections under a single root catalog.
To support products that come in multiple scent variants — such as Drift’s car and home refills — our team built a scent selector, a feature that lets customers choose a specific fragrance option within a single product page (for example, selecting between coconut, pumpkin, or other scent profiles for a car freshener refill). This gave customers a familiar retail shopping experience and allowed Scentbird to support products with multiple fragrance variants within a single product page.
Beyond fragrance, our team supported the expansion of Scentbird’s product ecosystem into home and lifestyle scents through the Drift brand. This included car fragrance add-ons available in wood, stone, and metal formats, and a home scent diffuser add-on with refillable cartridges. We also helped launch Drift as an independent product line, giving customers the choice between a starter kit — including the physical diffuser or car clip — and standalone refills for returning customers. In parallel, we introduced 1.5mL fragrance samples as a new, lower-cost add-on option, expanding the ways customers can try and gift scents.
As Scentbird expanded its subscription service into Mexico, our team supported the localization and platform readiness required for a successful regional launch – including adapting the product experience for a new market and aligning platform configuration with local payment methods, helping lay the groundwork for Scentbird’s international growth strategy.
As part of strengthening Scentbird’s product data infrastructure, our team helped integrate CommerceTools into the platform and developed a custom user interface for product information management (PIM) on top of it. This gave the client’s internal team a tailored, more efficient way to manage product data, demonstrating our ability to work with and build on top of established external e-commerce systems.
We've been working with Scentbird for several years, building new capabilities together and supporting the platform as it evolves. It's rewarding to see how our collaboration helps the client grow the business and deliver an even better experience for subscribers.
