Project overview

Summarize article with AI

Jets.com is a New York City-based company with a global network of hubs that offers seamless private jet charter and personalized aviation services for both domestic and international travel.

In summer 2024, the client initiated a modernization of their IT infrastructure. The primary objective was to rebuild the core technology stack and establish a stable digital environment for future business scaling. Their CTO reached out to Innowise through a Y Combinator referral to secure a reliable technical partner for this transition.

The team was able to onboard quickly and become productive in a short period of time. Notably, they supported and completed a full site rebrand within a six-month timeline, working closely with our internal stakeholders to execute against a tight schedule. They have also been critical contributors to the development of our mobile application, which is on track for launch in 2026. They were responsive, collaborative, and able to integrate into an existing codebase and development process with minimal friction.

Challenge

The client’s technology backbone was fragmented. After in-depth analysis, we defined the core business and technical challenges.

  • Overhauling legacy website. The public website did not fully reflect the company’s brand, and its visitor-to-lead conversion needed improvement. A full-site rebrand was necessary to showcase the organization’s offerings more clearly and provide the marketing team with a go-to resource for future expansion.
  • Internal platform cohesion. The client has set up two internal platforms. One is to help brokers make bookings and maintain client accounts, and another is to assist schedulers in working with aircraft operators. These platforms faced performance and stability challenges, making it difficult to ensure seamless daily operations across the company.
  • Dedicated mobile app. At the start, the existing website was the only source of information and also served as the booking tool. However, customers had no means to book or track their flights while on the go.
  • Legacy code. The internal back-end systems experienced stability issues and system failures. For example, some functions had over 500 lines of code, resulting in repeated crashes.
  • Testing limitations. The client faced challenges when modifying the application due to limited integration and unit testing, making it difficult to predict the impact of changes.
  • Complex architecture refactoring. Because of its distributed monolithic architecture, the system eventually required extensive code optimization.

Solution

To address these challenges, we teamed up with the client’s experts and split the project into two distinct workstreams:

  • The public website and mobile application.
  • The backend of the internal systems, DevOps, and testing.

The Innowise team worked directly with the client’s CTO using a Scrum methodology with daily team meetings, monthly reviews, and regular demo calls.

New website development

The team launched the Jets.com public website as the first fully completed product within the ecosystem. We designed it as a purely informational platform to drive lead generation. There is no user login or account management, since all complex user interactions remain securely within the internal platforms. The site was meant to introduce the brand, explain the services, showcase available aircraft, and give potential clients a clear path to getting in touch.

  • We implemented a modern Figma design to provide an intuitive and visually appealing user interface.
  • Next.js was used to achieve smooth search engine optimization and fast page load speeds.
  • We integrated Strapi CMS to give the marketing team full control over the website content.

Internal platforms stabilization

We focused on refactoring the two internal platforms that cover the full lifecycle of a private charter booking and scheduling.

Maverick is the main operations hub for the broker team. Brokers use it to process leads from the public website, manage trip bookings from start to finish, handle JetCards and flight credits, generate invoices, and produce monthly financial statements for client accounts.

Phoenix was designed for schedulers to find available aircraft operators for each requested flight, compile several options, and pass those back to the brokers. The brokers then present the options to clients, and the client selects the aircraft they want.

  • The team gradually refactored massive legacy classes into manageable and logical components.
  • We built test coverage from zero. Unit tests, integration tests, and AI-assisted automated tests were all introduced during the development process.
  • We identified and fixed the highest-priority bugs causing crashes and optimized slow backend search queries, which had been a noticeable performance issue.

Mobile app for booking private flights on the go

Launching a cross-platform mobile booking app became the logical next step in the client’s digital roadmap. The move addressed three clear business needs: closing the mobile experience gap, staying competitive in a market where app-based booking had become standard, and introducing an additional digital revenue channel.

  • We decided to opt for React Native, and it was the right call: one developer, two platforms (iOS and Android), and a fast development timeline.
  • We created a mobile solution that would allow users to request charter flights, track their trips, submit specific assistant requests, and manage their personal profiles.
  • Our experts deployed ML Kit and Apple Intelligence to process user documents seamlessly.
  • The development team integrated the Nuvei payment system to process secure transactions directly within the application.

Our client needed two things: to rebuild their site and realign their internal platforms. Both presented unique challenges due to scope and inherited code, but our experts found a way. Adding in the mobile app was a natural evolution given the strong compatibility of our shared teams.

December 2024 — Ongoing

Innowise worked shoulder to shoulder with the customer’s CTO to create and deliver all three products on time, in accordance with a clear development plan, and established a reliable foundation for business scaling.

  • Successful website launch. The client has received an updated version of the website that looks modern, performs well, and provides them with a strong tool for lead generation and brand promotion.
  • Enhanced system stability. The internal platforms now operate at or near stable performance daily and are no longer experiencing random crashes. The legacy backend has been incrementally refactored, and the number of critical bugs has been greatly reduced.
  • Faster backend performance. Search queries that impacted all internal platforms now have much-improved response times.
  • Improved code maintainability. The codebase has partial automated test coverage, which allows safe implementations of new features and reduces the chances of unforeseen defects in the system.
  • Mobile app ready for market. The client-facing React Native mobile app was completed in April 2026 and made available to a limited number of users, ahead of its public launch.

Our collaboration with Jets.com extends beyond the initial scope. With the website live, the platforms stabilized, and the mobile app heading to launch, our work is underway to integrate new functionality enhancements.
