Experience overview

Herman joined Innowise as Head of Go in 2022 and established the department from the ground up, growing it to 75 engineers at its peak. Over the following years, he led departments and specialist groups focused on Go, Rust, Node.js, Ruby, Scala, PHP, and technical leadership. His responsibilities included defining team structures, establishing internal processes, developing new managers, and supporting the growth of engineering practices across the company.

In 2025, Herman served as Head of Delivery & Project Coordination, where he focused on improving the consistency and quality of Innowise’s outsourcing and staff augmentation services. This role gave him a wider view of delivery operations, including project coordination, engineering standards, team performance, and client expectations.

Before moving into engineering management, Herman worked as a full-stack software engineer across .NET, Go, Java, Python, and front-end technologies including Knockout.js, Blazor, Angular, and React. He has extensive experience delivering fintech systems, including payment gateways, payment platforms, third-party integrations, and a cryptocurrency trading platform developed from its initial architecture through production release. His domain background also covers travel, healthcare, and facilities management.

Hobbies and interests

Outside of his core work, Herman studies both established and experimental approaches to management, business, and economics. He is also involved in educational initiatives and technical community development.

As a Zig enthusiast, Herman supports the language’s growing community and introduces more engineers to its practical applications. His interest in less mainstream technologies reflects a broader curiosity about how programming languages and engineering practices evolve.

Testimonials

Herman gave us confidence that the technical side was under control. He understood the pressure around delivery, raised risks early, and stayed involved until the team had a clear, workable plan.

Client company representative

Herman is very direct, and that is often exactly what projects need. He quickly spots weak points in processes, asks difficult questions, and pushes everyone to agree on concrete next steps instead of leaving issues unresolved.

Marina A. Team member

I saw Herman build the Go department almost from scratch. He was deeply involved in hiring, mentoring, and shaping the team structure, but he also knew when to step back and let new leaders take ownership.
