Mobile solution that reshapes travel medicine with AI

Innowise has developed a cross-platform mobile application to provide travellers with medical advice, multi-language support, and nearby medical facility locations.

Challenge

The client came up with the idea of creating an MVP version mobile AI-powered app. This app would provide medical advice on the go based on written, verbal, or even image-based input, translate it into the required language depending on the country visited, and guide users to the nearest doctor or pharmacy.

Innowise developed a cross-platform mobile application that leverages the extended AI capabilities to address the users’ needs effectively.

Key features

The app’s core functionality includes:

User profile: Each user profile is securely protected with login credentials to ensure privacy. Such personal profiles save one-month history of searches and recommendations, allowing users to easily restore previous queries and recommendations. This not only enhances user experience but also enables tracking of medical-related issues which can be invaluable for further discussions with a healthcare professional.

AI-powered medical advisor: The app uses GPT models to offer real-time medical advice. Users can input symptoms or queries via text, speech, or images. The app is equipped with text-to-speech and optical text recognition capabilities, providing users with answers or recommendations in written form or through a voice assistant.

Built-in translator: Automatically detects and translates user questions or the ChatGPT recommendations into the language of the country being visited to remove language barriers and facilitate contacts with pharmacists or healthcare providers.

Integrated mapping services: The app integrates with Google and Apple maps to navigate users to the doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies nearby.
Administrator module: An admin panel to manage ChatGPT integration, context messages sent with each user request, set request limits, monitor the list of active users, track the app rating and user feedback.
GDPR requirements: Developed with the requirements of GDPR compliance in mind, the app features auto-logout and encrypted data storage. In addition, to prevent self-treatment and worsening of pre-existing conditions, the app contains disclaimers on the necessity of seeking medical advice.

Process

After collecting and documenting the client’s requirements, Innowise began development. Using Flutter, we ensured the seamless functionality across both iOS and Android devices. To enable the app’s medical advising, we integrated a ChatGPT-powered chatbot and engineered prompts for ChatGPT to improve response accuracy. The app’s back end, powered by Python and Django and supported by the AWS infrastructure, is in charge of the app’s performance and scalability.

To enable revenue generation, we implemented a monetization strategy via the integration of Google AdMob.

We used the Scrum approach with two-week sprints, retrospectives, and on-demand meetings within a week to discuss important issues. Google Chat and Jira were used to manage tasks and discuss the project within the team. During the demo sessions at the end of each sprint, we presented a new functionality or other important sprint outcomes. After the development completion, the client performed user acceptance testing to ensure a smooth launch.
